The renaissance of the grinding machine

Ági's got promoted! After successfully completing her habilitation, she will be appointed as an associate professor from September 2023. WHAT GREAT NEWS! I'm so proud of her, and she is such a brilliant mind. Well done! Finally, I can call her "docenském" :)

I went to see my mates at the craftsman shop with the intention of replacing the machine that had demised yesterday. Well, demise is not an accurate term to describe what went wrong, but suffice to say it seemed it couldn't live up to my expectations. Anywho, I asked around and found out that they were more than happy to replace it, provided that it is in its original package and I've got the receipt. With this in mind I drove back home like a heavily sedated F1 pilot.

For reasons I don't want to discuss here I didn't start to clean the machine instead. I was focusing on the toilet and lunch. With that in mind, I began my cleaning-lady session. After completing the task and before preparing lunch, I studied a bit. I went through the homework, which seemed rather complicated. I had to complete three listening tasks and answer two questions each, which wasn't that difficult. However, the last part of the homework is heavy. There is a speech given by Alan Watts about Wu Wei and what it might mean, and I must answer a few questions and tell the gist of the speech to a B1-level student. What a fascinating piece of homework, isn't it? I love this challenging task...

Anyway, let's get back to my DIY story. After we finished the 'paprikáskrumpli' I had prepared, Ági had to rush to her class, and I didn't do anything. Apart from staring at the TV screen and watching a few unimportant funny videos, my mind was totally preoccupied with my homework. However, the lingering thought of replacing the DIY machine took over the scene in my mind, so I grabbed two wiping cloths and cleaned the tool. While I was meticulously wiping it, I realized that the damage I saw might have been caused by me due to the incorrectly fitted sanding belt Since I'm not completely sure if that was the case, I decided to buy another set of sanding belts and give them a try before returning the machine with clear signs of dissatisfaction. If I encounter similar issues with the machine, I won't hesitate to return it.

Apart from the DIY frenzy and my enervate English studies, not much happened. The weather was good today with temperatures around +25°C, a slightly cloudy skies, and no rain. However, according to the "meteo" guys, next week will bring scorching heat. "In the summer time, when the weather is high..." - "Easy, Mungo!"

When I woke up this morning, I knew the day wouldn't be an active one. Nothing sinister happened that would have suggested anything unexpected; it was rather one of those intuitions that depicted how the events of the day would unfold. This gut feeling strengthened when I grabbed Abby's leash and took her for her early morning walk. She was as inactive as I was, and the speed and length of our walk corroborated this theory. We ambled back to the house momentarily. After this painfully short-lived stroll with a surprisingly exhausted canine, I sat in front of the TV, munched my breakfast and slurped the much-needed black nectar in the form of a strong espresso. What a surreal still-life this was. Especially considering how many episodes we have watched from one of the currently watched series. As my system started to absorb the caffeine, switching my wee brain into the first gear, the haze dissipated over today's schedule. Harnessing this ephemeral clear state, I rushed into...

My new bridge is in my mouth. It took the doc almost an hour to meticulously and precisely fit it in and cement it. I wasn't allowed to eat for three hours, and I still can't chew anything on the left side of my jaw. However, my dental features are ship-shape-and-shiny. Only one tooth is left: they need to replace the old filling. Once it's done, I'll have a Hollywood-type smile. Before the dental care, I went through the lesson plan I'd prepared the other day for today. When I returned home from the dentist, I took Abby for her afternoon walk and drove to Budapest to teach. Before arriving at where I taught, I popped into a store to buy some "kifli" for later and four "Túró Rudi" to appease my rumbling stomach.  After teaching, I hurried back home, grabbed two "kifli", some butter and plum jam, and ate like a king. It was already pitch dark when we returned from our evening walk with Abby. I hate the early dusks. However, summer tries ...

Even though I was up from 5 a.m. till 10 p.m. yesterday, I couldn't sleep like a log. I woke up several times at night wondering why the blOOdy eff I couldn't hibernate. Since these awake periods didn't last long, I went back to sleep, but still, the reoccurring wakeups vexed me tremendously. Anyway, I decided yesterday that despite the winter daylight-saving time, I wouldn't follow the winter clock but stick to the old summer daylight-saving time. I've had enough. Each March, we have to set the clock an hour forward, which means an hour less sleep, which means my system gets into Carl Pilkington mode for weeks. Never again. So, with this in mind yesterday evening, I set the alarm clock to 5 a.m. When it went off, even though I was a bit miffed, I knew I'd tricked the system, so it was payday for me. After completing my homework this morning, I prepared lunch. It wasn't a special meal, just some fish fingers with rice and peas. And even though it wasn't ...
