Keskiviikko 🇫🇮 Miðvikudagur 🇮🇸

I asked ChatGPT and BING to help me detect mistakes students are prone to make at the A2, B1, B2, and C1 levels. The tools were supposed to write five sentences at each level containing typos and various grammatical, syntactical, and semantical mistakes, among which some must have been flawless - to make my life more difficult. After the third set of sentences, both tools started to produce the same mistakes and write frighteningly similar sentences, so I left them. My class today with the A2-level group was quite good. They enjoyed the listening practice, and I could boost the retired lady's confidence. Today's performance during the listening task was way better than the first time she'd heard a recording. I was pleased to see how she tried to concentrate and focus on the not-so-easy conversation and how much she could understand, even though she felt otherwise. When I asked her about the text, she described it perfectly. The weather was interesting today. It's still ...

Lauantai 🇫🇮 Laugardagur 🇮🇸

I was far more conscious about what to wear when I took Abby for her morning walk today than yesterday. The winter socks and pants with the fleece jacket protected me from the cold morning air. I was proud of myself for having such foresight. Even with the early morning prudence, I couldn't bring myself to continue the DIY session by sandpapering the wooden fence. I simply didn't see myself doing it. Instead, I buckled down to prepare the next lesson for my A2 group. Boy, was I happy about it? Completing the lesson plan gave me so much strength that I made up my mind and cleared the hallway in the basement. When I applied a chlorine-based liquid to the walls to remove the mould patches, I realised the walls weren't in bad condition. I was over the moon because it meant I didn't have to worry about removing the plaster and re-plaster them again. I can complete the job by applying a thin layer of spackling paste and painting the walls, which seems like child's play. I...

Maanantai 🇫🇮 - Montag 🇦🇹

A warm and humid Monday After waking up in the middle of the night from a nightmare - I think I shouted, and that's what woke me up - the beginning of the day wasn't too good. Apparently, Abby might have had a bad night, too, because, during the morning walk, she was pulling the leash like a husky. I had to show her again how an educated dog should behave. Anyway, the morning routine hasn't changed a bit, breakfast for Abby and me, coffee for me, and chit-chat with Ági. As for my English studies: since I'd completed my homework yesterday, I didn't have to worry about it today, so I had plenty of time to open an old book, Don't get me wrong by PONS, and concentrate on its content. It contains useful phrasal verbs, idioms, and expressions. I revised some of the chapters I'd gone through earlier this year and learnt some new phrases as well, such as "a cash cow", "to be on the gravy train", "to have a windfall", and "to make d...
