When I woke up this morning, I knew the day wouldn't be an active one. Nothing sinister happened that would have suggested anything unexpected; it was rather one of those intuitions that depicted how the events of the day would unfold. This gut feeling strengthened when I grabbed Abby's leash and took her for her early morning walk. She was as inactive as I was, and the speed and length of our walk corroborated this theory. We ambled back to the house momentarily. After this painfully short-lived stroll with a surprisingly exhausted canine, I sat in front of the TV, munched my breakfast and slurped the much-needed black nectar in the form of a strong espresso. What a surreal still-life this was. Especially considering how many episodes we have watched from one of the currently watched series.
As my system started to absorb the caffeine, switching my wee brain into the first gear, the haze dissipated over today's schedule. Harnessing this ephemeral clear state, I rushed into my office, completed the homework of one of my students, and went through my daily morning gymnastics. I loved that I could do 90 squats in a row without gasping for air, any palpitation or perceptible pain in my legs. The gradual process after the COVID-19 infection paid off. I started this exercise by squatting once and then gradually built it up to 90. Boy, was I over the moon? Doing these exercises was the most active part of the day. I was proud of myself because even though my body was objecting to the idea of exposing myself to any physical activity, my mind convinced my system by depicting a grim image of me sitting miffed about me not doing my usual morning routine.
I was about to pat meself on me back when the oven started to beep, signalling that the pizza was ready, which was divine. As we devoured the nosh, we watched a few more episodes of Below Deck, a silly series about yachties' life on a sailing boat. The rest of the day wasn't any different, so nothing worth mentioning happened apart from my evening workout. As I said, it wasn't an active day.
